Tuning a Guitar To Drop C

Drop C is a very popular tuning usually used in metal or hard rock but not exclusively. When tuning a guitar to drop you’ll usually want a set of slightly thicker gauge strings. I would recommend .11 or .12 gauges but the smaller gauges can work also. Just beware that with smaller gauge strings you’ll be risking string buzz and very loose string tension.

Follow the same instructions stated here Tuning a Guitar To Drop D but with the guitar down a whole step. You can use a tuner if needed.

Tuning a guitar to drop C can definitely be fun to mess around with but if you plan on keeping your guitar tuned this way I would definitely recommend having a professional guitar setup done. This way you ensure the guitars intonation is correct as well as making sure there is no undue damage being done to the neck. Low tunings like this have been known to damage guitar necks from time to time.
